Day 6 within the Octave of the Sacred Heart falls in Ordinary Time after Pentecost, during the week that follows the great Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. An octave is an eight‑day extension of a major feast, so this day continues the Church’s focused prayer on Christ’s love and mercy. The celebration’s rank is “Semidouble,” an older liturgical term indicating a feast of moderate liturgical importance: it allows fuller prayers and antiphons than an ordinary weekday, but it is not as solemn as a major solemnity or feast.

Catechism of the Catholic Church
The Eucharist is the heart and summit of the Church’s life, for in it Christ joins the Church to his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Jesus, the “living bread” who came down from heaven, invites us to receive him, abiding in us as we abide in him. In the Mass, through the ministry of validly ordained priests, bread and wine are consecrated and become the true, real, and substantial Body and Blood of Christ. Receiving Holy Communion in a state of grace increases our union with the Lord, forgives venial sins, helps preserve us from grave sin, and strengthens the unity of the Church. As we take part in the Holy Sacrifice, we are sustained on our pilgrimage through this life, grow in longing for eternal life, and are united even now with the Church in heaven, Mary, and all the saints.
Baptism incorporates believers into the Body of Christ and the Church, making them members of the one People of God. The baptized become “living stones” in a spiritual house, sharing in Christ’s priesthood and his prophetic and royal mission, and are called to proclaim the wonderful deeds of God. Baptism brings both gifts and responsibilities: the baptized may receive the sacraments, be nourished by God’s Word, and receive the Church’s spiritual helps; they are also called to serve others in the Church’s communion, profess their faith, and take part in the apostolic and missionary activity of God’s people. Baptism also unites all who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized in a real, though sometimes imperfect, communion. Sealed with an indelible mark of belonging to Christ, Christians are committed to worship, holy lives, and practical charity.

By the consecration the transubstantiation of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ is brought about. Under the consecrated species of bread and wine Christ himself, living and glorious, is present in a true, real, and substantial manner: his Body and his Blood, with his soul and his divinity (cf. Council of Trent: DS 1640; 1651).
