The Seventh Day Within the Octave of All Saints falls during the Time after Pentecost, in the wide season following Easter when the Church reflects on the life of Christ and the growth of the Church through the Spirit. An “octave” is an eight‑day celebration that extends a major feast; this day continues the joy and prayer of All Saints, keeping the community’s attention on holiness and the example of the saints. The rank “Semidouble” is an older liturgical classification indicating this celebration has its own proper prayers and readings that are given precedence, while still allowing certain common elements of the season to appear.

Envy
Envy is sorrow at another person’s good because that good is viewed as diminishing one’s own excellence or advantage. It opposes charity by resenting what should be welcomed and can lead to detraction, hostility, or pleasure at another’s misfortune.

Brotherly Love
Brotherly love rejoices in another person’s true good and acts to promote it. It opposes envy by seeing another’s gifts, success, and holiness not as a personal loss but as goods that can serve God and the whole community.

The Seventh Commandment, "You shall not steal," underscores the importance of justice and charity in how we manage our resources and respect others' property. It reminds Catholic families that all earthly goods are meant for the common good, and while private property is a right, it should not overshadow our responsibility to share with those in need. Families are called to practice stewardship not just over material possessions but also over creation itself, treating animals and resources with respect and kindness. By engaging in acts of charity, such as giving alms, we fulfill our duty to support the less fortunate, recognizing that in serving them, we serve Christ himself.

The eighth commandment calls us to uphold the truth in our relationships, reflecting God's nature as the ultimate source of truth.
