Wisdom
Wisdom is the gift by which the Holy Ghost gives a spiritual relish for divine things and orders the whole life toward God’s glory. It judges created goods in the light of the highest cause, seeing them according to their relation to God.
Understanding
Understanding is the gift by which the Holy Ghost gives deeper penetration into the meaning of revealed truth. It does not create new revelation, but enables the mind to grasp more clearly the mysteries already received by faith.
Counsel
Counsel is the gift by which the Holy Ghost guides practical judgment amid difficulty, danger, or uncertainty. It perfects prudence by making the soul ready to recognize and follow divine guidance when human reasoning alone is insufficient.
Fortitude
Fortitude is the gift by which the Holy Ghost strengthens the will to do God’s will and endure whatever fidelity requires. It carries the firmness of the virtue of fortitude to a higher readiness under divine prompting, even in extraordinary trials.
Knowledge
Knowledge is the gift by which created things are judged rightly in relation to God and His will. It reveals both the goodness of creation and its inability to satisfy the soul apart from the Creator.
Piety
Piety is the gift by which the Holy Ghost produces filial affection toward God as Father and a loving reverence for what belongs to Him. From this spirit flow willing worship, obedience, and a family-like charity toward God’s children.

The grace of the Holy Spirit is essential for our justification, cleansing us from sin and enabling us to embrace the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ and Baptism. This transformative grace calls us to participate in Christ's Passion, allowing us to die to sin and rise to new life as active members of His Church. Justification is not merely forgiveness; it brings about an inner renewal and sanctification, liberating us from sin and inviting us into a loving relationship with God. For Catholic families, this means nurturing an environment of faith, encouraging repentance, and living out the virtues of faith, hope, and charity, as they cooperate with God's grace to live a life that glorifies Him and leads to eternal life.

In the journey of faith, our justification and sanctification depend on God’s grace, his free and undeserved gift, which calls us to become his children and share in divine life and eternal life. Through Baptism, we participate in the grace of Christ, receive the life of the Spirit, and can call God “Father” in union with his only Son. This supernatural vocation surpasses the power of human intellect and will, for God alone reveals and gives himself. Sanctifying grace, received in Baptism, heals us from sin and enables us to live with God and act by his love. As we seek holiness, we remember that even our preparation and willingness to cooperate with God begin with his grace, which sustains and brings his work in us to completion.

Justification is the most excellent work of God's love made manifest in Christ Jesus and granted by the Holy Spirit. It is the opinion of St. Augustine that "the justification of the wicked is a greater work than the creation of heaven and earth," because "heaven and earth will pass away but the salvation and justification of the elect . . . will not pass away." He holds also that the justification of sinners surpasses the creation of the angels in justice, in that it bears witness to a greater mercy.
