Eastertide is the fifty-day season from Easter Sunday to Pentecost when the Church celebrates Christ’s Resurrection and the new life it brings. Michael, also called Saint Michael the Archangel, Archangel Michael and Saint Michael the Taxiarch is an archangel and the warrior of God in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. The earliest surviving mentions of his name are in third- and second-century BC Jewish works, often but not always apocalyptic, where he is the chief of the angels and archangels, and he is the guardian prince of Israel and is responsible for the care of the people of Israel. Christianity conserved nearly all the Jewish traditions concerning him, and he is mentioned explicitly in Revelation 12:7–12, where he does battle with Satan, and in the Epistle of Jude, where the archangel and the devil dispute over the body of Moses.

Through sacramental grace, the Spirit conforms us to the Son of God and unites us in a living union with Christ as beloved children of the Father.

The Church’s liturgy celebrates the mystery of the Lord as we await the fulfillment of God’s kingdom and Christ’s glorious coming. The sacraments, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, are efficacious signs of grace through which divine life is given to us. Celebrated by the Church as a priestly community, they involve both the baptismal priesthood of the faithful and the priesthood of ordained ministers. Prepared by God’s Word and received with faith, the sacraments strengthen and express our faith. Their fruit is both personal and ecclesial: life for God in Christ Jesus, and growth in the Church’s charity and mission of witness.
