The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is observed in the season after Pentecost. Sins Against the Theological Virtues

Resisting or attacking the known truth
Resisting known truth means opposing a truth recognized as coming from God because accepting it would require conversion or surrender. The sin lies not in honest difficulty or inquiry, but in a willful refusal of light already understood.
Envy at another’s spiritual good
Envy of another’s spiritual good is sadness or resentment at the grace, virtue, holiness, or service of God found in someone else. It is especially contrary to charity because it grieves over the very good by which God is honored and souls are helped.

The Theological Virtues

Faith
Faith is the infused virtue by which the mind firmly assents to the truths God has revealed because He can neither deceive nor be deceived. It rests on God’s authority and gives the foundation by which the believer knows Him and orders life toward Him.
Charity
Charity is the infused virtue by which God is loved above all things for His own sake and one’s neighbor is loved for God. It gives supernatural life to the other virtues by directing the whole person toward friendship with God and eternal union with Him.

Catechism of the Catholic Church

The Catechism highlights the profound role of the Virgin Mary as the Mother of God and the Mother of the Church, emphasizing her union with Christ and her participation in his saving work. From her consent at the Annunciation through her steadfast presence beneath the cross, she cooperated by obedience, faith, hope, and burning charity in the Savior’s work. Taken body and soul into heavenly glory and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, Mary is the Church’s model of faith and charity. Her motherhood in the order of grace continues through her intercession, and the Church invokes her as Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix. As we reflect together, we can look to Mary’s complete adherence to God’s will and remember that her maternal care depends entirely on and draws all its power from Christ’s unique mediation.

In the Catechism, we learn that the search for God is intrinsic to humanity, rooted in our creation in His image and our ongoing desire to encounter Him through prayer. God initiates this relationship, inviting us to respond through a reciprocal dialogue that unfolds throughout salvation history. Prayer, as exemplified by figures like Abraham and Jacob, is not just a series of words but a heartfelt response to God's call, marked by faith, obedience, and perseverance. For Catholic families, this means fostering a life of prayer that reflects our trust in God's promises and encourages open dialogue with Him, allowing us to grow closer to His will and share in His saving love.

In the unfolding story of salvation, prayer appears as a response to God’s initiative and call. Moses is a striking example of intercessory prayer: called by God from the burning bush, he learns to pray through dialogue with him and remains faithful to his mission. Speaking with God “face to face,” Moses draws strength from God’s steadfast love and prays not only for himself but for the people, even standing before God after their apostasy. This prayerful tradition continues in leaders such as Samuel, who listens to the Lord and does not cease praying for the people, and David, the shepherd-king who prays for his people and in their name. David’s submission to God’s will, praise, repentance, and joyful trust offer a model for the prayer of God’s people. As we pray together, these examples encourage us to listen to God, trust his faithfulness, and remember others in our prayers.
