The Precepts of the Church

You shall receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist at least during the Easter season.
This precept requires worthy reception of Holy Communion at least during the Easter season. The minimum joins the faithful sacramentally to the Paschal mystery and presumes the preparation required for receiving the Eucharist reverently.
You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church.
This precept requires observance of the days and forms of fasting and abstinence established by lawful Church authority. These common disciplines unite bodily self-denial with repentance, prayer, and obedience rather than treating penance as a merely private preference.

James the Great was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. According to the New Testament, he was the second of the apostles to die after Judas Iscariot and the first to be martyred. Saint James is the patron saint of Spain and, according to tradition, what are believed to be his remains are held in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.

Catechism of the Catholic Church

Marriage and married love are ordered by their nature to the procreation and education of children, and in them they find their crowning glory. Parents are the principal and first educators of their children, handing on moral, spiritual, and supernatural life through education; thus marriage and family are at the service of life (CCC 1652-1653). In a world often alien or hostile to faith, believing families are especially important as centers of living, radiant faith. By word and example, parents are the first heralds of faith to their children and should encourage each child’s proper vocation (CCC 1656). Couples without children can still have a deeply meaningful married life, fruitful in charity, hospitality, and sacrifice (CCC 1654). As the “domestic church,” the home is a privileged place for prayer, thanksgiving, holy living, self-denial, active charity, forgiveness, and divine worship (CCC 1656-1657). The Church also calls families to open their homes and hearts to single persons and those without a human family, remembering that the Church is a home and family for everyone (CCC 1658).

The Catechism teaches that marriage is a profound sacrament that mirrors the relationship between Christ and the Church, inviting couples to love each other with Christ-like devotion. This covenant, rooted in mutual consent, is designed for the couple's good, as well as for the nurturing and education of their children. Key elements of marriage include unity, indissolubility, and openness to life, reinforcing the sacredness of the marital bond. For Catholic families, the home is a vital "domestic church," where faith is first shared, virtues are cultivated, and the Christian life is lived out, empowering parents to raise their children in the love and teachings of Christ.
